I for some reason have been asked what I think are the some best songs of all time twice in the last week so I started giving it some thought and came up with these songs that to “Me” are the best.
Rod Stewart “Every Picture Tells A Story”
The CD is legendary but the title song is its best offering. Besides being a great song the production is perfect for the artist and the song because it is completely not fucked with at all. In music production 9 times out of 10 the music is over produced or under produced but the work on this song is flawless.
The Cult “Love Removal Machine”
The secret to a great song. You actually get cravings for it. I can’t leave this off of a mix CD almost every time I make one. The delivery once again is understated and perfect for this band. As “The Cult” matured they went towards producers like Bob Rock and lost their raw edge. This song was perfection.
Allman Brothers “Southbound”
Saw this performed in concert when I was 18 years old and it was my introduction to the blues first hand. The impression it made was an indelible stamp in my mind on what to measure great blues songs against. Dickey Betts just standing there with the cigarette in his mouth, expressionless, while he plays this blistering guitar solo was so fucking cool to me. It is a must on your Ipod in the blues category.
Sex Pistols “New York”
This song still makes me want to take on THE MAN! Better known as the establishment. Even though I am part of the problem now. The lyrics in this song that utter things like “Blonde little faggots, call you a Douchebag, and lots of shits and fucks just frankly doesn’t happen in music anymore. Even though you can make a case for times being more in disarray now and we need some antiestablishment music to wake us the hell up.
I will give you more to check out as we try and deliver more and more blogs. Till then……Later!
