The label of me being a "comic book geek" is somewhat an urban legend.
Yes, there was a period of my life when I was a weekly customer at "Keith's Comics" in Dallas
where I would show up and spend what little cash I had on some various titles.
But I was brought into comics because of the artwork.
It was while I was a freshman in high school that a guy that worked with my dad
introduced me to a title called, "Grimjack". The art, by Tim Truman, is still my favorite
and from that book I found, Starslayer, Groo, Scout, Jonas Hex, Grendel, Hellboy,
and Spawn before it became a mainstream hit.
During that time I also found "Watchmen". It is my all time favorite comic book story.
It was a 12 issue series and without question set the bar for writing, style and depth
for modern day comic books. It won a Hugo award and was on Time's 2005 list of
"the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present."
Anyway, there have long been talks about it being made into a movie which made me cringe.
The story is so complex and long that it seemingly is impossible to do.
But there appears to be some hope as the director, Zack Snyder,
who faithfully (and successfully) took the great "300" from paper to screen is now in
the middle of doing the same for Watchmen.
There is an official site tracking the progress and showing off stuff from the production.
Currently there are pics of actors in costume, story boards and director's blogs...
Go check it out.
Uh, I just read this back... Ok, I am a comic book geek.
